Early Childhood Education and it’s Importance

Raising a child is not an easy task. Feeding, caring, educating, guiding, and more needs to be done with great attention. Not only do children impact our lives, but they also grow to change the world around them. The famous quote, “children are the future,” really encapsulates their influence in a few words. Usually, when discussing education and children, adults focus on high school and further. In reality, however, several studies reported that the foundations of learning are largely built on the early stages of life. Unfortunately, children who lack proper education and care tend to fall into a vicious cycle of underachievement. Although early childhood education is vital, UNICEF in 2019 revealed that at least 175 million children are not enrolled in pre-primary education. As educators and mentors, we understand the need for a good education; therefore, we are dedicating this article to highlighting the importance of early childhood education.

What is Early Childhood and Early Childhood Education

Early childhood is defined as a period from birth until the age of eight. And UNESCO defines early childhood care and education (ECCE) as the holistic development of a child's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs in order to build a strong and broad foundation for lifelong wellbeing and learning.

Why is Early Childhood Education important

Providing an excellent education can impact a child's life significantly. The various benefits of early childhood education are summarized in the points below:

1. Socialization: Introducing children to new people in a safe environment can help boost confidence and reduce shyness.
2. Cooperation: When children interact with kids of their age, they learn the concept of sharing and cooperating.
3. Respect: Along with learning to respect people and belongings, children also learn to respect their environment.
4. Teamwork: Without a doubt, interacting in a group teaches children about working together.
5. Resilience: Clear expectations and predictable consequences in a fair environment develop resilience within a child. They learn to guard their emotions and manage themselves.
6. Concentration: A child's mind is full of energy and imagination. Through early childhood education, children are taught to balance this eagerness with the ability to focus, take directions, and concentrate.
7. Patience: Through role modeling and social experiences, children learn the concept of tolerance and develop it gradually.
8. Exposure to Diversity: Early childhood education allows children to learn, accept, and appreciate differences.
9. Enthusiasm for lifelong learning: Quality education and fun environment sparks the child's desire to continue learning.
10. Closing the word gap: Professional mentors introduce and reinforce new words into their vocabulary.
11. Reduces involvement with the criminal justice system: One of the significant benefits of early childhood education is that it guides students to a successful life and thereby reduces their chances of crime. As this is a serious topic, we will write a separate blog focusing on the link between early education and crime.
